Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Plea Seeking Guidelines For Conducting CA Exams

CA exams for November 2020 are scheduled to begin from 21st November 2020.

A petition has been filed by the CA aspirants seeking guidelines to be followed by the ICAI during the exams.

Supreme Court announced that the petition filed by the CA aspirants will be heard on 2nd November 2020.

The Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna heard the petition filed by the CA aspirants.

The petitioners claimed that less than a month has left for exams and ICAI has not taken enough steps to conduct the exams concerning health and safety guidelines of students.

The plea pointed out that a higher number of candidates are expected to take part in this attempt as May 2020 attempt was cancelled and merged with November attempt. Also, the limit of 100 persons for gatherings imposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Union gives rise to the petitioners’ concerns.

The court directed the petitioners to serve a copy of the plea to ICAI and the central government and said that the matter will be heard on November 2 2020.

The petitioners asked for uniform safety guidelines across the country and said that equal facilities should be provided to all the candidates taking part in the exams. They also made the following suggestions:

  • Symptomatic candidates should be allowed to participate in the exams, and the examination authorities should set up isolation rooms in each centre for the same.
  • ICAI must consider the possibility of a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases and prepare a mitigation plan for the same.

After taking all the points & facts into consideration, the supreme court decided to hear the plea seeking guidelines for upcoming CA examination on November 2.
