How to prepare for Law?

How do you prepare so that you can expect a good score in Law? The preparation for exams depends on various things. There are two types of students - one who do self-study and the other who take coaching classes. We are going to discuss a few things which are equally relevant to both types of students. There are few extra things that the students who are doing self-study have to do, rest tips are the same for both.

How to do self-study for Law? Is it possible?

It is very much possible. Sure, there are some extra steps involved as compared to students who are getting guidance from coaching classes but it is doable.

Plain Reading

Pull out the Institute's study material and start reading. If you understand it in the first try, very well, if not then don't worry, just give it a plain reading without thinking too much about understanding it. Not just read it, read it aloud. If you start reading it silently, you're sure to fall asleep. But if you read it out loud it creates an audio-visual effect and helps you retain what you've read.

Conceptual Clarity

For a student who is doing self-study, this becomes a problem area, especially in subjects like law. How to get conceptual clarity in law then? First of all, break the line you're reading in parts. Then analyze those parts separately as thoroughly as possible. The second thing that you have to do is to make three separate notes. The first one to write down the concepts in detail, the second one to note down the keywords that you must include your answers in the exam and the third one should be a section-chart to write down all the sections Act-wise. The summary notes with the keywords will help you to revise the syllabus effectively and efficiently before the exam.

Now that we are done with that, let's talk about the common things that both the students who are self-studying and the students who are taking guidance can do to score good marks in Law.

Tips to score good marks in Law

Immediate revision in a day

Once you've studied a topic make sure to have an immediate revision within 24 hours of your first study. If you keep on studying without revising in-between you're bound to forget the major chunk of the topic especially the sections and sub-sections. For that revision is the solution. There must be at least three revisions before you finally revise for your exam. It might sound like a time-consuming process but as you shift to your second revision and then to your third revision, you'll notice a decrease in the amount of time it takes for you to revise the same thing.

Create an Audio-Visual effect

How to create an audio-visual effect? Read it out loud and write it down. It's scientifically proven that you retain more when you read loudly and write down something as compared to when you just silently read it. Use highlighters to highlight the keywords. This will ensure that you will pay attention to those words in particular when you'll open your book. This will help you in retaining what you've studied for a longer period of time.

Practice questions

There's nothing like the materials provided by the ICAI. Be it your Study Material, RTPs, MTPs, Suggested Answers and even Practice Manual for old-course students. You can refer to any material that you want but never skip the Institute's study materials. Practice doesn't mean you have to just read the questions. You must write down the questions and their answers. Appear for as many Mock Tests as you can. There are several Mock Tests available online which you can take to improve your overall performance.

Importance of RTPs
